About Insitu Pacific
Insitu Pacific delivers industry-leading uncrewed aerial system (UAS) services to Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Our expertise, operational experience, and knowledge has established Insitu Pacific as a key provider of end-to-end advanced multi-domain ISR solutions.
Since 2009, our people, partnerships, suppliers and local flight testing and training facilities have effectively supported defence, commercial and civil customers. We are committed to maintaining and further developing our local supply chains and supporting Australia's sovereign capability as a vital component to a strong Australian defence industry sector.
The Opportunity
The Manufacturing Engineer supports the design, development, implementation and sustainment of manufacturing processes and systems for Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) and related components.
The Manufacturing Engineer applies established manufacturing practices, standards and engineering principles to resolve routine and moderately complex production issues, deliver process improvements, and contribute to project milestones.
Responsibilities
- Develop, document and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions and process flows for assigned UAS assemblies or production lines to improve throughput, yield and repeatability.
- Provide day‑to‑day technical support to production and MRO teams: investigate and resolve manufacturing issues of moderate scope, propose practical corrective actions and escalate complex problems.
- Collect and analyse production and quality data to identify trends and root causes; apply basic statistical methods and problem‑solving tools to support decisions and validate improvements.
- Lead or contribute to defined continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, small capital improvements) to reduce cost, cycle time or non‑conformance for assigned work packages.
- Review new and modified UAS designs for manufacturability and provide clear, implementable recommendations to design and systems engineering.
- Prepare and maintain process documentation including SOPs, routing sheets, inspection criteria and records supporting configuration identification and control.
- Develop and deliver training and knowledge transfer to production staff and less‑experienced engineers on implemented processes, tools and best practices.
- Support first article and production acceptance testing, recordkeeping and verification activities for assigned processes or components.
- Ensure processes comply with applicable quality standards, safety requirements and company procedures; communicate status, test results and recommended actions to internal stakeholders.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 2+ years professional experience in a manufacturing environment (UAS or aerospace experience desirable).
- Practical experience with process development, work instruction creation and production support activities.
- Proficiency with CAD for manufacturing review and basic familiarity with process mapping or manufacturing simulation tools.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and common continuous improvement tools (5S, Kaizen).
- Ability to apply basic statistical techniques and interpret production/quality metrics (e.g., control charts, basic capability indicators).
- Familiarity with configuration control, first article inspection practices and production acceptance testing.
Desirable
- Formal training or certification in Six Sigma (Yellow/Green Belt) or other structured quality/process improvement methods.
- Experience with automation, robotics, PLCs or CNC integration.
- Experience with AS9100, ISO standards or other aerospace regulatory/compliance frameworks.
- Prior involvement in manufacturing projects delivering measurable cost, quality or cycle‑time improvements.
- Experience using MRP/ERP systems and manufacturing data collection systems.
- Familiarity with supplier management and production/MRO integration activities.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements
- Able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
- You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024. Please refer to the Department of Defence website to understand these requirements.
Benefits
- Generous study assistance and education options
- Salary packaging and Career Development support
- Health and wellbeing benefits including annual flu vaccinations and access to an Employee Assistance Program
- Formal reward and recognition program
