The Opportunity: Architect the electrical heartbeat of next-generation platforms.
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electronic Systems Engineer to join our engineering team in Melbourne (Fishermans Bend). This is a pivotal role focused on the design, analysis, and lifecycle management of complex electronic and electrical systems that power our most advanced platforms.
As a Senior Electronic Systems Engineer, you won't just design circuits—you will translate mission-critical customer requirements into robust, high-performance hardware and software architectures. You will own the technical integrity of system designs, ensuring they transition seamlessly from theoretical concepts to validated, fielded technology. If you are a technical expert who thrives on solving complex integration challenges and wants to shape the next generation of electronic capabilities, this is your opportunity.
Role Description
As a Senior Electronic Systems Engineer, you are the technical authority for your assigned electronic systems. You will bridge the gap between customer needs and technical reality, performing the deep-dive analysis and design required to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance. You will act as a key technical liaison, coordinating with internal disciplines and external suppliers to ensure that complex electronic, electrical, and software components integrate into a unified, high-performance system.
Key Responsibilities
- Electronic System Design & Lifecycle: Conceive, develop, optimize, and maintain complex electronic/electrical system designs. You will translate customer requirements into detailed hardware, software, and interface specifications, ensuring designs are modified and updated throughout their lifecycle to meet evolving mission needs.
- Electrical Generation & Distribution: Design, analyze, and validate sophisticated electrical power systems. This includes expertise in generation, storage, distribution, load management, and conversion, as well as managing stability, current return networks, high-voltage corona effects, power filters, and fault mitigation.
- Technical Analysis & Optimization: Conduct deep-dive analysis of electronic/electrical domains, including signal processing, circuit design, and EMI/EMC considerations.
- Parts, Materials & Processes (PMP) Management: Apply deep technical knowledge to the selection and management of electrical, electronic, electro-mechanical, and electro-optical commodities. This includes overseeing construction, integration, packaging, handling, and reliability (addressing radiation effects, failure modes, failure analysis, and obsolescence).
- Verification & Validation (V&V): Lead the testing and validation processes—including screening, qualification, and derating—to ensure all designs meet rigorous operational, functional, and regulatory requirements.
- Supplier & Customer Coordination: Act as a primary technical liaison, providing coordination between internal engineering disciplines, external suppliers, and customers to ensure seamless integration and strict compliance with technical requirements.
- Innovation & Research: Actively research emerging technologies and advanced design techniques (such as DFM/A) to drive continuous improvement in our electronic architectures.
- Cross-Disciplinary Coordination: Collaborate across engineering departments—including software, mechanical, and production—to ensure holistic "systems thinking" in every design decision.
To be considered for the role, you will have:
Essential:
- Advanced Engineering Expertise: Proven experience in complex electronic/electrical system design, including analog/digital circuit design and signal processing.
- Power Systems Knowledge: Demonstrated ability to design and analyze electrical power systems (generation, distribution, stability, and fault mitigation).
- PMP & Reliability Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Parts, Materials, and Processes (PMP) for electronic and electro-mechanical commodities, including reliability, failure analysis, and qualification/screening methods.
- Systems Engineering Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to derive, allocate, and trace requirements throughout a product lifecycle.
- Technical Integration Skills: Experience integrating complex hardware and software components and managing intricate interface specifications.
- Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
- Citizenship: Must be an Australian Citizen to meet Defence security requirements.
Desirable (The "Edge"):
- Software Fluency: Proficiency with programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Matlab, Python) and understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, XML).
- Advanced Design Tools: Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), CAPTIAL, 3DX or advanced simulation/testing tools.
- Domain Expertise: Prior experience within the Aerospace or Defence sectors.
