Te Whiwhinga a mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Systems Administrator to support IT systems that are part of the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) P-8A Poseidon program, including flight and maintenance simulators, mission support, and hardware configuration in a data centre environment.

Working in a purpose-built facility at RNZAF Base Ohakea, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting our IT systems and networks while on shift. You will help ensure the reliability, performance, and security of critical systems in support of our military customer.

Your strong communication skills, along with your ability to build exceptional stakeholder and customer relationships, will see you become an effective member of this multi-disciplinary team.

  • This is a shift-work role, located at RNZAF Base Ohakea, New Zealand.

Responsibilities

As a Systems Administrator, you will:

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, networks, and other IT infrastructure components.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal operation.
  • Implement security measures to safeguard sensitive data and protect against cyber threats.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
  • Perform regular backups and disaster recovery operations.
  • Work with the customer to identify capabilities, practices, and resources to provide effective product support and technical issue resolution.
  • Convey complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Work shift patterns as required, including early and late shifts.

Experience/Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience in a complex systems administration role.
  • Strong knowledge of operating systems, including Windows and Linux, and server management.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts and protocols, including Cisco, TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with NetApp is advantageous.
  • Understanding of cyber security frameworks.

Eligibility: 

Applicants must be either a NZ Citizen or hold NZ Permanent Residency to obtain a NZ Defence Security Clearance.
