The Opportunity

The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. 

As we continue to accelerate the development program, and expand the aircraft flight envelope through the test program, we are seeking the very best talent from a diverse range of backgrounds to help grow and contribute to our innovative team.

Joining the Product and Services Safety team, who are focused in creating providing product safety direction to all of BDA's airborne platforms, you will enter the MQ-28 Ghost Bat Program as a Principal Engineer.  Currently the team is working towards developing safety cases for the platform with the aim of delivering an airworthy and capable product.

The role can be based in Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide or RAAF Base Williamtown 

As a Principal Airworthiness (Avionics) Engineer within BDA, you will:

  • Develop diverse engineering solutions for avionics, COTS equipment and custom electrical power, simulation and control systems.
  • Develop engineering analysis and justification of system hardware infrastructure, its installation and associated connectivity.
  • Work with the project team to ensure the engineering scope is delivered within the quality, schedule and budgetary constraints of the project.
  • Work as a part of the Safety and Airworthiness team to produce relevant Safety Cases and airworthiness documentation for the platform.
  • Contribute to trade studies and design investigations
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse, multi-disciplinary team, in a conscientious and inclusive way.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience carrying out certification activities under civil (CASA, EASA, FAA) or Military (DASA) regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience working within a civil or military Approved Design Organisation
  • Experience in writing and reviewing technical reports and developing documentation related to avionics and electrical systems.
  • Experience in delivering/integrating systems within a complex engineering project environment will be highly regarded.
  • Excellent communication skills that enable you to influence outcomes in a team environment.
  • Tertiary degree with experience working in airworthiness/certification or design of aircraft and their components/systems.
  • Experience with UAS would be highly desirable
  • Experience with Software or Complex Electronic Hardware Assurance would also be highly regarded
