The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Structures & Payloads Design Engineer to support a world class airborne surveillance, communications and battle management system, the E-7A Wedgetail. This role involves collaborating as part of a multi-disciplinary design team to develop and deliver both major and minor capability upgrades, spanning from concept stage through to aircraft in service.

The role can be based in Brisbane, Williamtown, or Adelaide.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Work as a senior member with the team; leading, guiding and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership in planning and execution of multiple projects, within the domain of aerospace mechanical/structural design.
  • Develop modification & installation designs for equipment in a mid-service life aircraft fleet. Produce engineering artefacts to define design definition, engineering analysis and justification, certification evidence, and modification instructions.
  • Performs basic and detailed structural analysis (static strength, durability/fatigue and damage tolerance) to determine structural integrity, using classical techniques and Boeing tools.

To be successful you will have expertise in some of the below:

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
  • A Bachelor Engineering qualification in either Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical or a related tertiary Engineering degree qualification satisfying the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust).
  • 5+ years experience in aviation engineering activities including design development, engineering investigations and issuance of authorised documentation relating to aircraft structure, mechanical and subsystem designs, and
  • Previous experience in developing engineering artefacts within a regulated aviation environment such as, the Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) environment or similar (CASA, FAA, EASA, etc.) is highly desired.
