The Opportunity
We are seeking a talented Satellite Communications (SATCOM) Systems Engineer to join Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) in growing the capabilities of the world leading deployed communications systems. You will focus on developing systems engineering artefacts and other engineering work associated with the acquisition of land based multi-band transportable satellite terminal systems and associated support system elements.
Battlespace Communications System (BCS) is a next generation networking product that is the centrepiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customised for various mission needs.
Responsibilities
- Working as part of an integrated product team of engineers and technical staff to deliver the next generation of satellite terminals to the ADF.
- Champion analysing and understanding customer requirements alongside the development of innovative solutions that ensure system engineering artefacts are developed through the project lifecycle.
- Coordinating with other design and specialty disciplines (e.g. software, hardware, safety, security and support system engineering) to ensure that your team's products are properly integrated into the solution and delivered in a way that delights the customer.
- Working with the broader project team to ensure the engineering scope is delivered within the quality, schedule and budgetary constraints of the project.
- Development of engineering documentation and effective configuration management of system artefacts.
- Verifying and validating designs and products to ensure they meet operational and functional requirements.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, Information Technology related fields or equivalent industry experience.
- Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management.
- Experience developing and executing against Systems Engineering artefacts, including Systems Engineering Management Plan and Verification and Validation Plan.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to engage with a unique team.
- Willing to travel and work in and around Brisbane. Main work locations include Brisbane CBD and Wacol, with periodic field events conducted at Defence facilities in the SEQ region.
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens and eligible to obtain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
Desirable:
- Experience within Defence or complex engineering project environments is desirable.
- Knowledge of various telecommunications technologies and products, particularly wideband SATCOM terminals and modems, and IP networks.
- Understanding of and experience with development Integrated Logistics Support and Product Support artefacts and deliverables.
- Experience in utilising digital systems engineering tools including DOORS and CAMEO/Magic System of Systems Architect.
- Leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a group environment and with people across all organisational levels.
