About Insitu Pacific
Insitu Pacific delivers industry-leading uncrewed aerial system (UAS) services to Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Our expertise, operational experience, and knowledge has established Insitu Pacific as a key provider of end-to-end advanced multi-domain ISR solutions.
Since 2009, our people, partnerships, suppliers and local flight testing and training facilities have effectively supported defence, commercial and civil customers. We are committed to maintaining and further developing our local supply chains and supporting Australia's sovereign capability as a vital component to a strong Australian defence industry sector.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechatronics Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in mechanical, electronic, and software design to support multi-disciplinary programs. You will be responsible for subsystem architecture, design development, verification, and production introduction, collaborating closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver complex mechatronic systems.
This role is instrumental for supporting innovation and driving continuous improvement within the engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Design complex systems, components, and assemblies from initial concept through to production and introduction into service.
- Create and review detailed CAD models and drawings, perform engineering calculations, and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes.
- Design and integration of sensors, actuators and embedded control systems into mechanical platforms.
- Development, implementation and tuning of control algorithms (e.g. motion control, guidance, servo control, avionics subsystems).
- Integration and troubleshooting of embedded hardware and firmware, including communication interfaces.
- Conduct tolerance analyses, ensure designs meet performance, cost, and quality requirements.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and specialty engineers to ensure compliance with Systems Engineering program requirements.
- Perform structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses using FEA and other simulation tools, validate models with physical testing.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate designs, analyse test data, and suggest design improvements based on findings.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical/electronic, and software/firmware issues and develop validated technical solutions.
- Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and system-in-the-loop (SIL) testing for integrated systems.
- Participate in ground and flight testing activities, inclusive of on-site support.
- Participate in design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.) and formal engineering change processes.
- Support the development of artefacts and documentation necessary for successful introduction into service.
- Contribute to technical publications, maintenance policies, inspection intervals, and spares provisioning requirements in collaboration with integrated logistics support specialists.
- Execute supportability analyses, reliability assessments, and maintainability studies that inform through-life support strategies.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks; escalate program-level scope or budget changes as required.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation: design specifications, test reports and design study summaries.
- Present technical concepts to stakeholders and contribute to design decisions that impact project success.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations and safety requirements; completing certification activities and patent applications when applicable.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to junior engineers, reviewing their work and fostering their development
