About the role

BDA is seeking an Armament and Life Support Engineering Team Lead to join the P-8A Poseidon team at RAAF Base Edinburgh. In this role, you will apply sound engineering principles and strong decision-making to lead teams responsible for the design, maintenance, and repair of weapon systems for the Australian Defence Force.

Responsibilities:

As an Armament and Life Support Team Lead within BDA, you will

  • Lead, mento, and task engineering personnel in maintenance, troubleshooting, and design.
  • Monitor and manage the Armament and Life Support systems to ensure aircraft are safe and reliable throughout their service life.
  • Implement and continuously improve procedures for data collection, assessment, and reporting.
  • Ensure all work complies with strict regulatory requirements, particularly for explosive ordnance and emergency systems.
  • Oversee and approve the development of engineering reports and documentation to provide analysis findings and present technical recommendations.
  • Provide technical input and review of engineering decisions regarding Armament and Life Support System findings and efforts.
  • Take ownership of projects, ensuring they are completed to meet customer, stakeholder, and regulatory requirements and timeframes.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide routine updates and presentations.
  • Foster a collaborative environment by sharing technical knowledge and best practices with team members.

Experience/Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, or similar) from nationally accredited program. (RPEQ &/or CPEng desirable).
  • 7-12 years of experience in Armament, or Life Support Systems, aircraft repairs, analysis, or engineering support to in-service aircraft operations.
  • Previous experience in developing engineering artefacts within a regulated aviation environment such as the Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) environment or similar (CASA, FAA, EASA, etc.).
  • Possess strong analytical skills, including the ability to collect, organise, and analyse data to develop conclusions and recommendations.
  • Strong leadership, and well-developed communication skills to work collaboratively to a high standard within a multi-discipline team. A proactive mindset with a strong desire to take initiative and drive results.

Eligibility: 

Applicants must be Australian citizens to meet Defence security requirements and must be willing to undergo the standard government vetting process, including a full life background check. BDA will sponsor and support the required clearance process.
