Position Overview
Join the Boeing Global Technology - Australia team to design, implement and iterate gameplay systems for commercial pilot training, human spaceflight and aerospace engineering projects. This role focuses on applying Unreal Engine 5 and modern software engineering practices to deliver realistic, high-fidelity interactive experiences.
This role is located in St Lucia, Brisbane.
Key Responsibilities
- Prototype & R&D: Rapidly prototype interactive features (instrument controls, flight-dynamics logic) in C++ and Blueprints.
- Systems Architecture: Design modular, testable gameplay frameworks (input handling, state machines, physics).
- Tool Support: Build in-engine editor extensions and custom data-driven configuration panels.
- Performance Optimization: Conduct profiling (CPU/GPU, memory) to ensure stability on high-end PCs and Head-Mounted Displays (HMDs).
- CI/CD Integration: Support automated testing and build pipelines within an Agile workflow.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional experience as a Gameplay or Software Engineer.
- Expert proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (C++, Blueprints, Gameplay Framework, Profiling tools).
- Proven track record building complex gameplay systems: input, UI, physics, AI, and multiplayer/networked components for simulation or game projects.
- Demonstrated ability to optimize performance for desktop and VR/AR platforms (memory management, LOD, texture streaming, multithreading).
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; service‑oriented mindset for supporting cross‑disciplinary teams.
Extra Points
- Direct experience with flight‑simulation or pilot‑training domains, including knowledge of avionics, sensor modelling or general aerospace knowledge.
- Familiarity with VR/AR or iOS development pipelines and performance constraints on mobile devices.
- Background in regulated, safety‑critical environments (aerospace, automotive, medical).
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in Agile development environments.
- Direct experience with flight-simulation or avionics modelling.
- Familiarity with VR/AR/XR hardware and performance constraints.
- Background in regulated or safety-critical software development.
- Experience with flight‑simulation or pilot‑training systems.
Non‑Technical Skills
- Clear written and verbal communication; ability to create runbooks and technical documentation.
- Business acumen to align operational decisions with product/service objectives.
- Comfortable with Agile development practices.
Typical Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, game development, or related field, and typically 3+ years' relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
