Position Overview
As part of the Boeing Global Technology - Australia Team, the Technical Artist will build high-fidelity visualizations and training applications for commercial pilot training, human spaceflight and aerospace engineering projects. You will leverage deep expertise in Unreal Engine 5 to create realistic, performant visual assets and systems that support engineers, pilots and analysts in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
This role is located in St Lucia, Brisbane.
Key Responsibilities
- Prototype & R&D: Develop proof-of-concept visual features (cockpit displays, terrain rendering) in UE5.
- Art-Engineering Liaison: Translate aerospace requirements into art pipeline specifications.
- Pipeline Development: Design and maintain robust pipelines for importing CAD data and managing large-scale environments.
- Workflow Optimization: Implement custom scripts or plugins to improve asset preparation and rendering efficiency.
- Data Visualization: Convert raw datasets and complex technical information into performant, high-fidelity real-time visual experiences.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5 years of professional experience as a Technical Artist.
- Proven track record delivering high‑fidelity visual content for games, aerospace, defence or scientific visualization projects.
- Expert proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (Blueprints, Material Editor, Niagara).
- Proficiency in 3D toolsets: Maya, Blender, or Substance.
- Ability to write automation scripts in Python or C#.
- Experience with real-time optimization for Desktop and VR/AR.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Expert proficiency in Unreal Engine 5 (Blueprints, Material Editor) and related toolsets (Maya, Blender, Substance, Photoshop).
- Ability to create editor extensions, custom import pipelines, and automation scripts in Python and C#.
- Experience with rigging, animation, shader development and real‑time implementation of complex 3D assets.
- Demonstrated skill in performance optimization for both desktop and VR/AR platforms, including profiling, LOD strategies and texture streaming.
- Excellent communication skills; service‑oriented mindset for supporting cross‑disciplinary teams.
Extra Points:
- Strong grasp of aerospace visualization needs: accurate material shading, sensor simulation, physics‑based rendering and large‑scale terrain/atmospheric effects.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with flight‑simulation or pilot‑training systems.
- Hands‑on work with VR/AR hardware and optimization techniques.
- A proven track record of shipping at least one commercial game, demonstrating end‑to‑end development and successful launch.
Non-Technical Skills:
- Clear written and verbal communication; ability to create runbooks and technical documentation.
- Business acumen to align operational decisions with product/service objectives.
- Comfortable with Agile development practices.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
Typical Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, game development, or related field, and typically 3+ years' relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
