About us

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is shaping the future of Australian aerospace by delivering some of the nation's most important capabilities to the Australian Defence Force.

BDA currently employs more than 3,000 people across 14 sites in Australia and three international locations and have a range of opportunities available as we plan for future growth.

The Opportunity

As a DevSecOps Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Deploy, configure and maintain the DevSecOps platform (source control, CI/CD, static analysis, artifact registries, runners/agents, web UIs) in Kubernetes within an AWS cloud environment.
  • Provision and operate production Kubernetes clusters (EKS or equivalent): cluster lifecycle, networking, storage, ingress, RBAC, Helm/Operators and autoscaling.
  • Patch, upgrade and harden DevSecOps tooling, container images, OS and Kubernetes components; coordinate maintenance windows and rollback plans.
  • Implement and enforce security controls: identity federation, RBAC, secrets management (KMS/Vault), image scanning, admission controls, private endpoints and network segmentation.
  • Integrate static analysis (SonarQube or equivalent), SCA, unit/integration tests and security gates into pipelines.
  • Automate provisioning and operations with IaC and configuration management (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, Helm) and maintain automation in git.
  • Monitor platform health and tooling telemetry (metrics, logging, alerting); troubleshoot and remediate incidents and performance bottlenecks.
  • Mentor and support developers and operations staff in pipeline usage, tooling best practices and secure development lifecycle improvements.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging tooling and patterns (GitOps, policy as code, container security) to improve reliability, security and developer experience.

Applicants are also expected to have:

  • 5+ years' relevant hands‑on experience (or equivalent education + experience) administering cloud, Kubernetes and DevSecOps tooling in production.
  • Strong Kubernetes operational experience (cluster lifecycle, networking, storage, RBAC, Helm, operators, troubleshooting). EKS experience preferred.
  • Strong AWS skills (VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS, S3, KMS, Transit Gateway/Direct Connect concepts)
  • Proficient with infrastructure as code and automation: Terraform / CloudFormation, Ansible, Helm, and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
  • Solid git workflows and experience building pipeline templates, branch protections and merge policies.
  • Experience with container image security: scanning, signing, runtime hardening, and admission controls.
  • Administration/troubleshooting experience for Windows and/or Linux servers.
  • Familiar with security and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and documentation skills.
  • NV1 security clearance required.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
