The Opportunity
As part of BDA the Business Operations team, the Data Governance Lead will be responsible for establishing and maturing the BDA-wide data governance program. This position will be instrumental in fostering a culture of data quality, efficiency and security across all levels of the organization. The Data Governance Lead will be responsible for managing and maintaining the data governance framework, facilitating governance forums, and overseeing monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement of data governance activities and processes. This role involves developing, nurturing, and leveraging cross- business relationships to maximise business value of data governance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead defining and refining of BDA's data governance framework.
- Establish, maintain and continuously improve BDA-level data governance policies, standards, procedures and frameworks.
- Lead integration and alignment between data governance & business and technical disciplines, including architecture.
- Facilitate the recognition and engagement of data owners and data stewards across different departments, acknowledging their existing roles in data management.
- Lead and manage data governance forums, workshops and training sessions, ensuring participation and promoting data governance literacy across the organization.
- Coordinate and monitor progress of the data strategy implementation.
- Lead the coordination of and provide advice on data risks, issues and escalated matters.
- Monitor data governance implementation progress and periodically assess BDA data maturity and capability uplift while overseeing data governance reporting, monitoring and continuous improvement.
- Promote and educate key stakeholders about the data governance program, including key priorities and benefits.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in data governance, data management, data quality or related roles
- Strong understanding of data governance concepts: metadata management, data lineage, data quality, master data management, data privacy and data lifecycle management.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or related field.
- Experience with governance enabling technologies and tools (data catalog, metadata repository, data quality tools, MDM platforms) and ability to define tool requirements and vendor selection criteria.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills; ability to work across senior business, legal/compliance, and IT audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience defining governance metrics and KPIs.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; experience creating policies, playbooks, training material and executive presentations.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- Certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), DGSP (Data Governance and Stewardship Professional) or relevant data privacy certifications.
- Practical experience implementing and operating data governance programs across business and IT stakeholders.
- Change management or organizational design experience.
- Experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, aerospace/defense) or large-scale enterprise environments.
Working conditions and travel
- Hybrid work model with 3 days presence in the office.
- Occasional travel to business sites and vendor locations is required.
