The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia is seeking a Mechanical or Aerospace Engineer to join the C-17A Globemaster III team based at RAAF Base Amberley. This is a unique opportunity to support the sustainment of the C-17A Globemaster III fleet and directly contribute to Australia's Defence capability.

In this role, you will provide hands-on engineering support across operational bases, helping to keep the aircraft safe, available, and mission ready. You will work closely with pilots, loadmasters, maintainers, logistics teams, and leadership, while contributing to technical problem-solving, investigations, and continuous improvement across the program.

This is a global support role that offers the opportunity for international travel and collaborate with other Boeing sites or participate in further training and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

As an Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineer, you will:

  • Provide on-site sustaining engineering support for all C-17 operational bases
  • Support on-ground and in-flight troubleshooting activities
  • Assist with safety and mishap investigations
  • Support FMS field engineering alerts, in-service evaluations, and exercises as required
  • Conduct engineering analysis and development, review, and/or approve engineering dispositions
  • Support engineering investigations and other technical activities across the sustainment program
  • Prepare engineering documentation, reports, analyses, and technical recommendations
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical data
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, Defence personnel, OEM teams, and maintenance partners
  • Provide direct engineering assistance and on-site engagement to Pilots, Loadmasters, Maintainers, and base logistics personnel, including leadership
  • Participate in customer and program-level technical interchange meetings, engagement forums, and conferences
  • Contribute to airworthiness, safety, configuration management, and continuous improvement activities

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in an aerospace, defence, sustainment, maintenance, or technical engineering environment
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess technical issues and develop sound engineering recommendations
  • Experience reviewing technical data and engineering documentation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to engage confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, both technical and non-technical
  • A practical, solution-focused approach to problem solving
  • Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to quality, safety, and compliance

Desirable

  • Experience supporting military aircraft or in-service sustainment programs
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, structures, maintenance practices, or airworthiness processes
  • Experience with engineering dispositions, technical investigations, or troubleshooting support
  • Familiarity with Defence aviation environments and associated regulatory frameworks
  • Exposure to configuration management, reliability engineering, or root cause analysis
  • Experience in supporting safety, mishap, or incident investigations
