The opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to support the Battlespace Communications Systems (BCS) Franchise. In this Brisbane-based role you will develop and maintain Operational and Maintenance Technical Manuals, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with relevant standards. You will collaborate with the BCS Technical Publications Coordinator and Execution Lead to deliver high-quality documentation for customers.

The Currawong Battlespace Communications System is the Australian Defence Force's next generation battlespace communications system which improves the capacity, flexibility and responsiveness for deployed forces.

Currawong provides cutting-edge secure wideband voice, data and video services over wireless and wired infrastructure - allowing for faster and more reliable secure communication between deployed Australian land forces and headquarters.

What you'll do

  • Develop, maintain, and quality-assure technical manuals for BCS customers.
  • Convert complex technical information into user-friendly documentation for end users.
  • Contribute to process improvements to enhance document quality and efficiency.
  • Engage with geographically dispersed teams to gather inputs and validate content.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience developing end-user documents in an engineering or technical environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling effective interaction with project teams and internal customers
  • Ability to work in a safety-sensitive and security-conscious environment.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.

Desirable

  • Experience with software development, communications infrastructure, or networking equipment.
  • Knowledge and use of the S1000D specification.
  • Experience with XML, SGML, or other markup languages.
  • Current NV1 security clearance.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements. Successful candidates must be willing to undergo the standard government vetting process (full life background check). BDA will sponsor and support this clearance.
