The Opportunity

Do you want to help design, develop, produce, and test the MQ‑28 Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA)? Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is recruiting experienced System Administrators to apply their systems administration expertise on this cutting‑edge program.

This role is based in Brisbane and requires NV2 security clearance. Occasional interstate travel to Boeing sites across Australia (including Amberley and Woomera) may be required. Applicants must be Australian citizens to meet defence security requirements.

Role summary

As a member of the MQ-28 Secure Networks team, you will support Phantom Works Australia and the MQ‑28 Program to enhance existing secure environments and support migration of applications and data to target‑state systems. Your work will span compute, storage, networking, client delivery services and infrastructure applications. You will collaborate with Solution Architecture, Network Administration, and Cyber GRC specialists and provide technical design reviews and subject‑matter expertise for critical components of the design.

You will also provide:

  • Problem resolution and technical support for system delivery.
  • User administration and ongoing monitoring of system performance to support capacity planning.
  • Backup and disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Contribution to the design, implementation, and support of other specialised, high-assurance ICT environments in use across the Program and within Phantom Works Australia.

Essential experience & qualifications:

  • Expertise implementing and administering complex, high assurance, security focused systems.
  • Strong experience building and administering Windows Server environments.
  • Storage administration and hypervisor integration experience (Fibre Channel, Pure Storage, VMware).
  • Identity management, multi factor authentication and group policy experience (Active Directory, Federation Services, RSA).
  • Experience designing and implementing application and desktop delivery services (Citrix XenApp, Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA), Gateway).
  • Systematic and logical problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise technical documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work inclusively with diverse teams.

Other specific criteria

  • Willingness to undertake occasional ad hoc tasks outside core business hours (e.g., system upgrades).
  • Australian driver's licence.

Desirable criteria

  • Defence industry experience.
  • Working knowledge of the ASD Information Security Manual (ASD ISM).
  • Experience implementing server hardening and security baselines.
  • Experience with DevOps / DevSecOps tooling and processes.
  • Backup administration experience (Veeam preferred).
  • Working knowledge of networking and firewalls, with an understanding of segregation and security techniques.
  • Experience delivering with Scaled Agile (SAFe) or Scrum approaches.
  • University degree or industry certification in a relevant discipline.
  • Security+ certification.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
