The Opportunity -
Boeing Defence Australia is looking for a Training Device Lead who will join the Apache Training team. In this role you will provide vital technical support to the Apache training devices at RAAF Base Townsville.
As a Training Device Lead you will manage and deliver high-quality training and mission support for the AH-64E Longbow Crew Trainer. You will lead a small team of simulator technicians to ensure all devices are mission-ready, support and deliver instructor-led and scenario-based training and develop training content that builds and maintains aircrew proficiency. The role combines hands-on system ownership - configuration, first-line fault diagnosis and coordination with external support - with people leadership, schedule management, record-keeping and continuous improvement to keep simulator operations safe, compliant and aligned with operational needs.
- Act as the main contact for Longbow Crew Trainer issues with external partners and support providers.
- Support and coordinate external instructors and technicians working on-site.
- Lead and manage the simulator support staff.
- Plan and run the simulator flying program, balancing priorities across different users.
- Schedule and oversee maintenance to maximise simulator availability.
- Track contractor performance to ensure service commitments are met.
- Raise and manage facility repair requests with relevant teams.
- Coordinate tasks that support simulator operations and training delivery.
- Report technical problems and lead reviews to resolve maintenance issues.
- Manage deliveries and shipping for spare parts and supplies.
- Support annual regulatory and operational assessments to maintain compliance.
- Provide regular updates to program stakeholders on status and issues.
- Serve as the point of contact for all Townsville-based training devices.
- Step in as an instructor/operator when needed to support training.
- Coordinate leave and availability across the simulator support workforce.
This role is full-time and must be performed on-site at RAAF Base Townsville
About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Experience with synthetic training devices - flight simulation systems, avionics, or other complex technical systems.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong documentation skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends or after hours, to support training schedules.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams.
- Proven leadership experience — demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and develop a small technical team.
- Experience in workforce coordination, including managing leave, schedules and tasking to maintain coverage and readiness.
- Capability to set priorities, delegate effectively, and resolve conflicts to keep operations running smoothly.
- Experience providing performance feedback, managing expectations with stakeholders, and driving continuous improvement.
Highly Desired Skills/Experience:
This position requires the applicant to hold, or able obtain a Defence NV1 level security clearance.
