About us
Boeing Defence Australia is shaping the future of aerospace and delivering some of the nation's most important programs for the Australian Defence Force.
Joining us is a chance to make your mark, working with a diverse team that is united in pushing the boundaries of imagination and excellence.
We currently employ more than 2,500 people across 14 sites in Australia and three international locations and have a range of opportunities available as we plan for future growth.
The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Quality Systems Specialist to play a key role within Boeing Defence Australia's Core Quality function, supporting the enterprise Quality Management System (QMS) and its interfaces with Safety and Airworthiness. In this role, you will help sustain health, effectiveness, and continuous improvement of our QMS; act as part of a center of excellence that provides programs with expert advice, tools, and coaching; and contribute to robust, enterprise-wide governance through policy development, audits, metrics, and independent assurance. You will collaborate closely with program quality leaders, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and safety stakeholders to drive consistency, compliance, and capability uplift across the organisation.
Key responsibilities:
- QMS leadership and governance
- Maintain and continually improve BDA's QMS in alignment with ISO 9001, AS9100/AS9110 (as applicable), Defence and regulatory requirements, and Boeing corporate standards.
- Develop, own, and govern BDA-level quality policies, procedures, and standard work; ensure controlled distribution and versioning via EDMS.
- Provide independent assurance and oversight of program-level quality activities, including periodic reviews, assessments, and governance board inputs.
- Assurance, audit, and compliance
- Support the internal audit program: conduct system/process audits, report findings, and drive timely, effective corrective actions and CAPA closure.
- Establish and report quality KPIs, analyze trends, and produce management reporting to identify systemic risks, nonconformance patterns, and improvement opportunities.
- Lead complex root-cause investigations (ICAM / 8D) for cross-program systemic issues; validate robustness of corrective/preventive actions.
- Configuration, change control, and product assurance
- Support configuration of quality-related change control and product assurance interfaces to ensure traceability and compliance across programs.
- Capability uplift and incident response
- Design and deliver enterprise training, coaching, and mentoring on QMS, auditing, metrics, and continuous improvement (Lean / Six Sigma).
- Coordinate BDA-level response to critical safety/quality events; capture and implement lessons learned.
Essential criteria
- 5+ years' progressive experience in Quality Management Systems within aerospace, defence, or aviation, including corporate/enterprise-level QMS governance.
- Tertiary qualification in engineering, quality, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated, practical knowledge of ISO 9001 and experience implementing and governing QMS across multiple business units or programs.
- Experience managing systemic nonconformance and CAPA processes.
- Strong analytical skills: enterprise-level trend analysis, KPI development, and data-driven decision making.
- Ability to influence and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders.
- Lead Auditor qualification (or willingness to obtain upon commencement).
- Australian Citizenship (eligible for Defence security clearance).
- Resilient, hands-on approach with the ability to prioritize and operate in a high-accountability environment.
Highly regarded
- Experience with Quality and Safety Data Management Systems (such as Intelex) and demonstrable use for nonconformances, CAPA, audits, and records.
- Experience with AS9100/9110, Defence quality frameworks, or supporting airworthiness/certification activities.
- Exposure to enterprise-scale supplier governance and performance recovery programs.
- Familiarity with ICAM, 8D, SPC and process capability; experience facilitating cross-program RCA.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other CI methodologies and leading cross-functional improvement programs.
- Experience integrating quality processes with management tools and using data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
