The Opportunity
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are seeking Expressions of Interest for Assembly & Fabrication professionals to join the MQ‑28 Ghost Bat Production Facility currently being built at Wellcamp Toowoomba, QLD.

In these roles you will be part of a team that builds something that matters, grow with a high-performing team, and leave a legacy in Australian defence manufacturing

Why this is exciting

  • This is a rare opportunity to work on Boeing's first final assembly facility outside North America and help build a state-of-the-art site that will deliver Australia's first military-designed combat aircraft in more than 50 years and redefine how advanced aircraft are made.
  • Work on an advanced, high‑visibility defence program (MQ‑28) that blends autonomy, aerospace systems and new production approaches.
  • Shape the future of Australian aerospace manufacturing — your work will support national defence capabilities and the growth of local industry.

Roles we're seeking expressions of interest for

  • Assembly Operator
  • Fabrication Operator
  • Senior Assembly Operator

We expect these roles to commence later in 2026.

What you'll get to do: Assembly

  • Work alongside advanced automation equipment, including robots and NC machines.
  • Install and route wiring harnesses, avionics modules and mechanical systems per work instructions.
  • Carry out first article builds, build sub assemblies and conform to configuration control processes.
  • Use jigs, fixtures and tooling safely and accurately; support tooling and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct factory acceptance checks, functional tests and assist with production test activities.
  • Maintain high standards of safety, quality and traceability in a regulated defence environment.
  • Collaborate with engineers and the Quality team to resolve issues and improve manufacturing processes.

What you'll get to do:  Fabrication Operator

  • Read and interpret composite work instructions, engineering drawings, and nesting diagrams.
  • Prepare materials and work area: cut/trim carbon-fiber, stage molds/tooling, clean and release surfaces.
  • Perform manual ply layup: place and orient carbon-fiber plies precisely according to ply schedules and fiber orientation.
  • Apply adhesive films or vacuum bagging materials as required.
  • Perform Layup, trim, and feathering to conform plies to complex geometries while avoiding wrinkles, bridging, or fiber distortion.
  • Install and inspect core materials where specified.
  • Bagging and vacuum setup:
  • Operate consolidation and debulking procedures to ensure proper fiber/resin compaction.
  • Prepare and monitor cure cycles.
  • Inspect layups in-process and prior to cure.
  • Maintain cleanliness and environmental controls (temperature/humidity) critical to carbon handling.
  • Use and maintain tools and fixtures; perform minor tooling setup and alignment.
  • Complete production documentation and quality records.
  • Follow all health, safety, and hazardous-material procedures for composite resins, solvents, and carbon fiber storage.

Who we're looking for:

  • Prior experience in aerospace, production or precision manufacturing industries highly desirable.
  • Experienced in use of hand tools, power tools and common assembly equipment; experience with composites or riveting (solid/hi‑loc) advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity and pride in doing high‑quality work.
  • Ability to read and follow technical work instructions, drawings and safety procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills; ability to work on shift rosters as required.
