The Opportunity -

In partnership with the ADF and the Commonwealth, Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) provides aircraft maintenance and upgrades, component maintenance solutions, technical support, mission-critical infrastructure support and training on some of the most capable surveillance, command, control, and combat platforms in the world.

We are seeking a Mechanical / Aerospace Engineer to provide engineering and sustainment support for the E-7A Wedgetail aircraft. This role will place you in the BDA Airborne Mission Segment Engine Structural Integrity Team, providing ongoing sustainment support for the existing fleet.

This role is based in Williamtown.

As an Engine Structural Integrity Engineer you will:

  • Work on and provide oversight of E-7A Engine Systems. This includes end-to-end monitoring of data transfer processes, as well as analyzing flight data with the E-7A Aircraft Condition Monitoring System.
  • Review maintenance, engineering, flight operations, and aircraft data to maximize capability availability. This involves working in depth with the E-7A sustainment, reliability and MRD teams to generate engineering artefacts in support of practical design changes.
  • Develop and/or review root-cause analysis on E-7A fleet data to identify/evaluate trends and opportunities to increase dispatch reliability. This can occur through contractually required periodic reporting or on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Develop and/or review aeronautical certification documentation IAW business processes in support of design changes and repairs.
  • Engage in customer interaction, with opportunities to interact with stakeholders from the operator, contractors, Defence Regulator and aircraft OEM. This includes preparing briefs, co-chairing discussions and forums and communicating technical concepts to stakeholders with a variety of knowledge and experience levels.
  • Help to identify and prioritise customers' operational support requirements and define engineering-based project success criteria in support of Minor and Major Projects.

To be considered for the role you will:

  • Demonstrated previous experience in aircraft engine or mechanical engineering processes and other related engineering experience.
  • Hold Tertiary qualifications in either Aerospace or Mechanical engineering, that satisfies the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust).
  • Familiarity with engineering change processes.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence NV1 security requirements.
  • Experience with the E-7A Wedgetail Platform (of benefit, but not essential).
  • Experience within Defence or complex engineering project environment.
