The opportunity
The Boeing MQ28 - Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force, it is the first military combat aircraft to be designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia in 50 years.
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to support the design, and integration of new capabilities for the MQ-28 Ghost Bat as well as provide support to the MQ-28 Safety Management System (SMS) Lead manage the safety program, as the SMS Coordinator.
As a Systems Safety Engineer you will:
- Conduct safety analysis in support of the System Safety Program.
- Document safety analysis, hazard mitigation, validation and verification activities in compliance with relevant customer and regulatory safety standards.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders (including EHS and Quality) to define, validate, and integrate safety, mission success, and airworthiness requirements and address systemic safety issues as part of on-going safety assurance
- Perform or review tests, analyses, inspections, audits, and simulations to verify system meets defined safety and mission assurance requirements.
- Assist with demonstrating safety hazard risk mitigations and control methods to the customer and regulators.
- In addition, as the SMS Coordinator you will:
- Develop and maintain the MQ-28 Safety Management Plan (SMP) and records.
- Provide support to the program SMS Lead in the coordination and preparation of the MQ-28 Safety & Quality Review Board (SQRB)
- Support/co-ordinate safety investigations as required, including Safety Review Board (SRB) presentations and Safety Lessons communique for Program Manager.
- Provide SMS training to the team as required
- Review program safety trends, safety investigation findings and causal factors.
To be considered for the role you will have:
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in complex technical development and integration projects (essential)
- Hold Tertiary qualifications in either Aerospace, Avionics, or Mechatronics, that satisfies the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust) or equivalent technical experience in Systems Safety Engineering (essential)
- System Safety engineering experience (desirable)
- Experience using 3DExperience, DOORS and MSOSA (desirable)
- Experience with Agile delivery methodologies (highly regarded)
- Experience with aerospace and / or Defence projects (highly regarded)
