The Opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia is on a mission: keep Australia's most capable airlift and attack rotorcraft ready, safe and mission‑effective. We're looking for an experienced Principal Aerospace Mechanical & Structures Engineer to lead engineering delivery for the CH-47F Chinook and AH-64E Apache sustainment programs — a role that puts you at the heart of high‑tempo, safety‑critical defence capability.

Location: Enoggera, Brisbane, QLD (hybrid work arrangement)

Why this is exciting

  • Work on iconic rotorcraft that matter in real operations — your engineering decisions will directly support ADF missions.
  • Lead high-impact repairs, modifications and sustainment engineering that keep aircraft flying and crews safe.
  • Join a multidisciplinary team where your technical leadership shapes outcomes across engineering, production and customer engagement.
  • Balance focused on-life work with hybrid flexibility — do great work and stay grounded.

Boeing values — what drives us

  • Safety — We put safety first in everything we do.
  • Integrity — We are honest, ethical and accountable.
  • Quality — We deliver exceptional outcomes and continually raise the bar.
  • Customer focus — We listen, respond and deliver what our customers need.
  • Innovation — We tackle hard problems with bold ideas and practical engineering.
  • Diversity & Inclusion — We value different perspectives and create an environment where everyone can contribute.

Your mission (key responsibilities)

  • Lead and manage engineering activities for sustainment technical support, modification and repair design, and production support for Chinook and Apache fleets.
  • Act as the principal technical authority — set standards, solve complex structural and mechanical problems, and ensure continuing airworthiness.
  • Partner with Project Managers and the Chief Engineer to deliver projects on time, on budget and to the highest safety and quality standards.
  • Be the customer's trusted technical interface — translate requirements, present engineering status and deliverable outcomes.
  • Mentor and grow junior engineers and technical officers — build capability across the team.
  • Provide surge engineering support across other rotorcraft and fixed‑wing sustainment programs when needed.

What you need to be considered:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical or related) — Engineers Australia membership or ability to obtain (RPEQ and/or CPEng desirable).
  • Solid track record as a senior engineer in aircraft mechanical/structural systems — troubleshooting, repairs, design and in‑service support.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in project environments — able to juggle priorities, meet schedules and lead teams.
  • Strong grasp of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with Change Management processes and producing Project & Systems Engineering artefacts.
  • Experience authoring engineering artefacts under safety regulation (e.g., Defence Aviation Safety Regulation — DASR).
  • Rotorcraft experience is a strong advantage.
  • Outstanding communicator who thrives in a multi‑discipline environment.

Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
