The opportunity 

We are seeking an experienced Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS) Manager to lead the core function responsible for Boeing Defence Australia's Quality Management System (QMS) and Safety Management System (SMS). This role will ensure ongoing health, effectiveness and continuous improvement of our management systems, act as a center of excellence to support programs with expert advice and resourcing and provide robust governance across the organization.  

Responsibilities: 

• Lead and develop the core QMS and SMS function, ensuring systems are effective, compliant and aligned to enterprise and regulatory requirements. 

• Own governance of the management systems, including policy, procedures, standards, approvals, and change control. 

• Drive continuous improvement across QMS/SMS using metrics, management reviews, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and lessons learned to improve audit outcomes and product and service safety. 

• Provide center-of-excellence support to programs: expert advice, surge resourcing for assurance, and standardized processes and tools. 

• Ensure system compliance with relevant standards and regulations (e.g. AS9100/AS9110/ISO 9001, DASR/ICAO/CASA SMS frameworks, and others as applicable). 

• Coordinate risk and assurance interfaces for quality and safety, including hazard identification, risk assessments and controls. 

• Lead stakeholder engagement with internal and external partners to enable consistent adoption and maturity of QMS/SMS. 

• Champion a strong Quality and Safety culture and foster capability development, training and coaching across the organization. 

• Coordinate readiness for certifications, customer assessments and regulatory engagements; manage associated documentation and configuration control.  

Experience/Qualifications 

Essential 

• Tertiary qualifications in engineering, quality, safety or a related discipline, or relevant experience (7-10 years with 3-5 years leading enterprise QMS/SMS). 

• Demonstrated leadership of enterprise-level QMS and/or SMS in aerospace/defence or similarly complex, regulated environments. 

• Strong knowledge of AS9100/ISO 9001 and Safety Management System frameworks (e.g. ICAO Annex 19, CASA), and familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 31000. 

• Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements. 

• Proven ability to influence and collaborate across programs and functions, with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 

Preferred 

• Experience in governance, assurance, and continuous improvement. 

• Lead Auditor and/or Lean/Six Sigma certification.
