  • We are recruiting an experienced Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to be embedded with the Commonwealth in the Apache SPO at Enoggera, Brisbane.
  • In this role you will develop, implement and assess EHS programs to ensure regulatory compliance and maintain a safe, healthy working environment for the Apache program and partner fleets.

Why this role matters

  • Play a vital role in safeguarding Australia's maritime security by designing, upgrading and sustaining the P-8A fleet.
  • Be at the forefront of multiple advanced capability upgrades coming to the platform over the next several years.
  • Work in a dynamic, mission‑focused environment supporting real operational outcomes for Defence.

What you'll be doing

  • Apply Boeing's Safety and Quality values to develop and enhance Apache WHS processes, tools and communities of practice.
  • Evaluate and advise on WHS hazards associated with introduction into service of Apache aircraft, materials and processes.
  • Act as a primary WHS interface (with the Materiel Safety Engineer) to regulatory agencies and AVNCOMD for Apache-related hazards.
  • Support co‑located site EHS Specialists by evaluating workplace hazards and providing technical guidance.
  • Report on Commonwealth safety system compliance against Environmental, Health & Safety regulatory requirements.
  • Lead program reviews, investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent re‑occurrence.
  • Provide WHS change impact assessments for Apache system changes across the enterprise.
  • Deliver education and training to meet regulatory and business requirements.
  • Monitor new regulations and advise on impacts to enterprise operations.
  • Must hold a Tertiary qualification in Electrical, Avionics or related Engineering degree, meeting Engineers Australia requirements (MIEAust).
  • Experience in aviation engineering: design development, investigations or work on aircraft electrical, radar, communications, navigation or electronic warfare subsystems.
  • Experience producing engineering artefacts in the Defence Aviation Safety Regulation (DASR) environment.

Who we're looking for

  • Tertiary qualification in Health, Safety & Environment and at least 5 years' EHS experience in an operational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform with minimal direction and exercise judgment in setting objectives and approaches.
  • Thorough knowledge of Australian WHS and environmental laws, regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
  • Strong time management and prioritisation skills to operate in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience working within a highly regulated environment.

Security requirement

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
