The opportunity

Boeing is taking another bold step in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.  The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat is a globally significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities.  As we continue to accelerate the development program and expand the aircraft flight envelope through the test program, we are seeking the very best talent from a diverse range of backgrounds to help grow and contribute to our innovative team.

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are looking for a Master Production Planner to join our team supporting the MQ-28 Ghost Bat program.  As a highly skilled analyst you will apply your broad project planning knowledge and analytical ability to support a multidisciplinary team through the full lifecycle of an establishment of manufacturing capability either internally in Boeing or within the Australian supply base.  We are looking for someone who will embrace our company's behaviours and is willing to innovate.

This role is based in Brisbane.

Position summary

The Master Production Planner is accountable for defining and maintaining the master production schedule (MPS) to meet customer demand, optimize inventory and capacity utilization, and coordinate cross‑functional planning across engineering, supply chain management manufacturing, and fleet support.  This role consolidates demand inputs, balances constraints (materials, capacity, labour), and leverages Open Plan Professional to create, simulate and execute robust production schedule models.  The role includes ownership for production scenario management, executability reviews, skyline management and learning‑curve modelling to ensure plans are resilient, and executable.

Key responsibilities

As the Master Production Planner within the MQ-28 Ghost Bat program, you will:

  • Work with the Production team to understand the Production Plan and its relationship with the MQ-28 Program Strategy.
  • Understand the Production System Design, its constraints and build relationships with key stakeholders across the Program.
  • Master production schedule (MPS): develop and maintain the MPS that translates demand forecasts, customer orders, and supply constraints into a prioritised production plan using Open Plan Professional.
  • Build and run finite‑capacity schedules to sequence production, evaluate alternative scenarios, and recommend optimal run plans and changeover strategies.
  • Production scenario management: create, manage and version alternative production scenarios (e.g., demand upside/downside, supplier disruptions, capacity constraints, planned maintenance); evaluate trade-offs and present recommended scenarios with quantified impacts (cost, lead time, service).
  • Executability reviews: lead regular executability reviews with manufacturing, maintenance, procurement and logistics to validate that the MPS is practical—confirm resource availability, operator skillsets, tooling, material availability, planned downtime and changeover feasibility prior to committing plans.
  • Skyline management: own the skyline (short, medium and long‑range view of production commitments and capacity allocation) including the incorporation of learning curves and ramp‑up effects into capacity.
  • Coordinate material requirements planning (MRP) inputs and work closely with procurement to ensure availability of bought‑in components and long‑lead items; ensure schedules align with supplier capabilities and lead times.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards and quality systems in planning decisions.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and have:

  • A degree in Project Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Information Technology, Business or a related discipline is highly preferred.
  • Typically 5+ years' experience in production planning, supply chain planning, or operations planning in a manufacturing environment; hands‑on experience with Open Plan Professional, skyline management and learning‑curve application strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of production planning methodologies: MPS, MRP, finite/infinite scheduling, capacity planning, lot‑sizing, skyline/rolling‑horizon planning, learning‑curve modelling and backlog management.
  • Proficiency with Open Plan Professional and Milestones Professional for finite scheduling, scenario simulation, skyline maintenance and schedule optimization.
  • Experience developing, calibrating and applying learning curves to production ramps and changeovers; ability to translate operator and process learning into planning assumptions.
  • Experience leading executability reviews and validating operational readiness for committed plans.
  • Analytical capability: ability to evaluate demand/supply trade‑offs, perform scenario analysis, and interpret planning KPIs.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP ECC/PP, SAP IBP, Oracle) and advanced Excel for data manipulation and reconciliation with Open Plan Professional outputs.
  • Excellent cross‑functional communication and stakeholder management skills—able to influence production, procurement, sales and engineering.
  • Problem‑solving orientation with experience in root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement (Lean, Six Sigma concepts desirable).
