We are seeking a full-stack Software Engineer focused on front‑end web application development to design, build, test, and maintain software products.
- Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3 (including responsive design and layout techniques) and hands‑on experience with a modern frontend framework or library like Angular or React (2+ years).
- Solid understanding of web application architecture, component design, state management, RESTful API integration, and client‑side performance optimization.
- Practical experience with front‑end testing (unit and integration tests), linting, build tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with browser compatibility, security best practices (XSS/CSRF mitigation), and observability (logging/metrics/tracing) for production front‑ends.
- Familiarity with backend development using C# and .NET or similar object-oriented programming languages and frameworks.
- Experience working with SQL and SQL-XML technologies (MS SQL / PostgreSQL)
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with product, systems, QA, and suppliers.
The Opportunity

Forward looking, the Engineering function has developed a Capability Plan to enable the Engineering workforce to meet our defence customers' evolving needs, both in Australia and internationally.
We're seeking a Software Engineer with strong front‑end skills (HTML, Angular and related technologies) to design, build, test and maintain web applications used across BDA to support defence platforms and systems. The role includes full stack development using C# / .Net, with SQL and SQL XML. As part of a dedicated team, you need to be dynamic and adaptable to current work priorities and requirements.
About you
Key responsibilities:
- Translate customer and system requirements into initial software designs and interfaces.
- Implement, test, and maintain software components (databases, backend services, integration layers, desktop/web applications).
- Contribute to architecture, algorithms, and interface definitions.
- Support verification & validation activities aligned with security requirements (e.g. Australian Government Information Security Manual).
- Troubleshoot production issues; reproduce, diagnose, and implement fixes; support customer inquiries.
- Maintain documentation (requirements traceability, design docs, test plans, runbooks).
- Help define and improve software development processes, tooling, CI/CD.
- Participate in R&D tasks and support project management activities (scheduling, risk tracking).
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering, Computer Science or similar education or experience.
- Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3 (including responsive design and layout techniques) and TypeScript/java-script with hands‑on Angular (2+ years) development experience.
- Solid understanding of web application architecture, component design, state management, RESTful API integration, and client‑side performance optimization.
- Practical experience with front‑end testing (unit and integration tests), linting, build tooling, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with browser compatibility, security best practices (XSS/CSRF mitigation), and observability (logging/metrics/tracing) for production front‑
