The Opportunity
Boeing Technology Innovation (BTI) supports the future growth and profitability of Boeing Australia's businesses and the broader Boeing enterprise. This advanced research and development arm creates future aerospace solutions while improving the cycle time, cost, quality and performance of current systems.
We are currently looking for Software Engineers to join the team located at St Lucia.
As a Software Engineer within BDA, you will:
- Be a part of an innovation-focused, multi-disciplinary R&D capability within The Boeing Company working on challenges spanning the gamut of future technologies in aerospace.
- Operate within a larger ecosystem of engineering, including flight autonomy, mission autonomy, mission systems, devops and flight testing.
- Develop, integrate, and maintain software that will be deployed on operational platforms under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Build an understanding of the application context and the practical constraints that influence technical solutions; ask questions and seek clarification from domain experts.
- Produce clear, reviewable technical artefacts (code, design notes, test plans) for review by cross-functional stakeholders.
- Support verification, validation and release activities tied to operational acceptance; execute test cases, document results, and fix issues under supervision.
- Collaborate with other engineers, testers, systems engineers and product owners; represent your work within the team and escalate issues when needed.
- Practice good software engineering habits: write readable code, add unit tests, follow code review feedback, and follow security and maintainability best practices.
- Participate in an agile software development process: attend planning, stand-ups and retrospectives; estimate and commit to work items.
- Make informed decisions and take effective action in the presence of uncertainty and incomplete information; adapt with agility as the situation evolves.
- Be an Australian citizen and hold, or have the ability to obtain, a minimum NV-1 Australian Defence security clearance.
About you

- Two (2) or more years of experience in professional engineering roles (or equivalent combination of higher degree and professional experience).
- Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively within a cross-disciplinary team.
- Strong software language proficiency (Python, C++ are highly desirable).
- Clear technical communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Demonstrated ability to reason about real-world constraints and to translate them into practical software or algorithmic steps.
- Natural curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning.
Desirable:
- Internship, project or coursework experience in autonomous systems, robotics or related applications.
- Experience with scientific computing, data analysis, or simulation tools.
- Research higher degree or relevant project portfolio (e.g., senior capstone, open-source contributions).
