The Opportunity 

Boeing Technology Innovation (BTI) supports the future growth and profitability of Boeing Australia's businesses and the broader Boeing enterprise. This advanced research and development arm creates future aerospace solutions while improving the cycle time, cost, quality and performance of current systems.

We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the team located at St Lucia. 

As a Senior Software Engineer within BDA, you will:

• Be a part of an innovation-focused, multi-disciplinary R&D capability within The Boeing Company working on challenges spanning the gamut of future technologies in aerospace.
• Apply systems thinking to architect and implement interoperable autonomy services within a broader ecosystem, including flight autonomy, mission autonomy, mission systems, devops and operational testing.
• Build a rich understanding of the application context and the associated practical implications imposed on technical solutions.
• Take end-to-end ownership of software developed and deployed onto operational platforms.
• Produce clear, reviewable technical artefacts for cross-functional stakeholders.
• Lead verification, validation and release activities tied to operational acceptance.
• Serve as a technical representative and collaborator across functions and business units.
• Champion software quality, maintainability and security as part of your engineering practice.
• Plan and execute work within an agile software development framework.
• Make informed decisions and take effective action in the presence of uncertainty and incomplete information; adapt with agility as the situation evolves.
• Be an Australian citizen and hold, or have the ability to obtain a minimum NV-1 Australian Defence security clearance.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

Required:

• Tertiary qualification in software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mechatronics, aerospace engineering, or related disciplines.
• Five (5) or more years of experience in professional engineering roles (or equivalent combination of higher degree and professional experience).
• Ability to work both as an independent contributor, and as an active collaborator within a cross-disciplinary team.
• Strong software language proficiency (Python, C++ are highly desirable).
• Clear technical communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Demonstrated ability to understand the application context, and translate real-world constraints to algorithmic solutions and software implementations.
• Natural curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning.

Desirable:

• Experience in autonomous systems or robotics applications.
• Experience in scientific computing applications.
• Research higher degree qualification in a relevant discipline.
