We are seeking a Production Engineering Manager to join our team supporting the cutting edge MQ-28 Ghost Bat program. In this role you will facilitate the development of the future full rate MQ-28 production system, working across all production functions within Boeing in Australia. We are looking for someone who will embrace our company's Values and Behaviours and is willing to innovate. The role is based in Toowoomba (preferred) or Brisbane.

Boeing is taking another bold step in aerospace and advanced manufacturing.  MQ-28 is the first military aircraft to be designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia in more than 50 years.  The unmanned teaming aircraft is Boeing's first military aircraft to be designed and produced outside the U.S and uses artificial intelligence to extend the capabilities of manned and unmanned platforms.  This cutting edge project is aiming to unlock global defence and aerospace opportunities for Boeing and Queensland.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for the team performing the following work activities:
    • Refining the production system design for composite fabrication, assembly and factory testing of the aircraft
    • Specifying key equipment requirements and providing oversight as suppliers design, build, install and commission the equipment
    • Planning and facilitating approvals to qualify the equipment to Boeing standards and release the equipment to production. This includes, where necessary, transitioning capability from the prototype Melbourne and Wacol facilities to the Toowoomba Wellcamp facility
    • Completing recurring and non-recurring engineering effort supporting the production effort at both Wacol and Toowoomba Wellcamp facilities
    • Lead the team to conduct production problem solving, process improvement and change management, lean production system design and implementation, production planning/metrics and equipment/facilities support
    • Lead the team to apply sound judgment and make technical decisions based on appropriate production engineering requirements, processes, methods and procedures
    • Partner with other areas of the business to ensure the production activities delivers on its business plan and targets
    • Drive the technical development of our supplier base to enable their capacity and capability growth
    • Foster longer term initiatives to continuously improve staff skills and competencies

Required skills and experience

  • Tertiary Qualification in engineering or equivalent technical experience in an aerospace/mechanical discipline
  • Experience in a leadership and management role in a production environment
  • Strong knowledge/experience in Manufacturing including Safety and Lean principals is essential
  • Build and maintain excellent relationships with other managers and team members
