The opportunity

The Boeing MQ28 - Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force, it is the first military combat aircraft to be designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia in 50 years.

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer who will specialize in the ground systems for the MQ-28 Ghost Bat project, you will play a critical role in the development, integration, and maintenance of software systems that support the operation and management of this advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the ground systems are robust, reliable, and capable of meeting mission requirements

As an experienced Senior Software Engineer you will:

  • Design, develop, and test software applications for ground control systems, including automation of Unit level tests, ensuring compliance with project standards.
  • Develop and support build pipelines and infrastructure and own your systems in production.
  • Develop and lead software verification plans, test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and verification of software to ensure performance, reliability, and security.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines, including systems engineering, safety and airworthiness, cybersecurity, and user experience, to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to research initiatives aimed at improving the capabilities and efficiency of the MQ-28 Ghost Bat ground systems
  • This position may require occasional travel to support field testing and customer engagements.

To be considered for the role you will have:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in software development, with a focus on aerospace or Defence systems preferred.
    • Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, C# or Python.
    • Experience with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum) and tools (Git, JIRA).
    • Experience in the Aerospace industry (Highly Desirable)
    • Experience with design and development work with Human Machine Interfaces (Highly Desirable)
