The opportunity

BDA is seeking a Production Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS) Senior Leader to manage and advance quality and safety standards within the MQ-28 program through actively engaging stakeholders to promote and highlight our commitment to delivering safe and quality products and services.

The Boeing MQ28 - Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. Developed in partnership with the Royal Australian Air Force, it is the first military combat aircraft to be designed, manufactured and assembled in Australia in 50 years.

The ideal candidate for this role offers relevant experience and a passion for Quality and Product and Services Safety in a production environment. As well as ongoing leadership of quality and safety, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maturation MQ-28's QSMS, working closely with key stakeholders to elevate quality and safety in preparation for full-scale production. This senior organisational role is suitable for an experienced leader that can exercise a pragmatic approach to effectively navigate a complex development program operating in a highly technical, innovative, and regulated environment. Reporting to the Senior Manager of BDA Safety and Quality, the role will be based in Brisbane or Toowoomba, with the ability to travel between locations, as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee the program's quality strategy, policies, and objectives for aviation production, in collaboration with key stakeholders (including customers, engineering teams, production teams, and suppliers), ensuring alignment with BDA's QSMS.
  • Lead, mentor, and empower a team of safety and quality specialists, including managers, engineers, and inspectors, to enable and support in driving excellence by fostering a culture of continuous improvement, open communication, and collaboration.
  • Ability to pragmatically interpret program and business requirements and apply legislation, regulations, policies and procedures in a complex operating environment within production to enhance quality standards.
  • Promote the reporting culture and general awareness of QSMS throughout the MQ-28 program value stream and lead by example through your commitment to safety and quality as organisational priorities.
  • Translate and communicate complex concepts to stakeholder groups on quality and safety matters, trends, and analysis, so that the program and organisation understands what matters.
  • Prepare and present quality performance reports, risk assessments, and improvement plans to senior management.

Experience/Qualifications

  • 5+ years in a leadership role within Quality and/or Safety within a commercial and/or defence aviation organizations.
  • Bachelor degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Aviation, and/or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience in continuous improvement and/or project management.
  • Proven ability to lead quality teams, initiative, and exercise critical thinking in a regulated environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and manage positive, effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain a Defence Security clearance with Australian Government Security Vetting Agency and be cleared for International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
