About the opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia is looking for a Principal Senior Systems Engineer to join our Air Battle Management portfolio supporting the Wakulda Spiral Sustainment Program as the Wakulda System Architect. The Wakulda System Architect will take responsibility for coordinating the complex, concurrent, and interdependent capabilities and enhancements to the Wakulda System over the next decade. The role requires significant stakeholder management across internal and external partners, while guiding the delivery of enhanced ABMS technologies.

Significant and demonstrated Systems and Project Engineering experience coordinating solutions across multiple skill areas in a complex development program is required for this role.

This role is based in Brisbane or Williamtown.

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Senior Systems Engineer who will bring systems thinking, effective communication, stakeholder management, and senior engineering design to support the Air Battle Management portfolio.

The candidate will have the depth of experience required to strategise the development, delivery, and sustainment of complex upgrades being delivered concurrently to the Air Battle Management System. Reporting to the Wakulda Engineering Manager, the role will coordinate delivery of complex upgrades by multiple teams within the Wakulda engineering structure. This role will work closely with our customer, developing the roadmap of updates to the Wakulda System and negotiating priorities of multiple concurrent activities under an annual contract value.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Development and maintenance of the Wakulda System Development Master Plan, including significant negotiation of program priorities and the scope of capabilities with multiple customer representatives.
  • Provision of technical guidance to several teams representing multiple skill areas that are delivering technical solutions to our customers. Their skillsets include Information Technology, Software Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.
  • Guidance, development, and review of program plans and design documents including Product Roadmaps, Obsolescence Management, Systems Safety, Security Compliance, and Design Descriptions.
  • Managing the lifecycle of technical risks, issues, and opportunities related to system architecture, engineering development processes, and engineering design.
  • Estimating and planning of complex developmental work scopes covering multiple technical disciplines.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and guiding technical staff across the Wakulda Program.
  • Applicants must be an Australian Citizen and hold, or have ability to obtain, an NV1 security clearance.

To be successful you will be able to demonstrate:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in complex technical development and integration projects.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership qualities, and the ability to provide technical guidance to several teams representing multiple skill areas delivering technical solutions to our customers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage, influence and negotiate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and customers.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance on architectures and designs covering Information Technology, Network Architectures, Software Engineering, and Electrical Engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management, particularly those that unpin the Australian Standard for Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) suite.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and coordination qualities, working on behalf of the Engineering Manager, to inform the technical roadmap of the Wakulda Program.
  • In depth experience with Change Management processes and progressing change management artefacts
  • Significant experience in Air Battle Management or Defence Communications systems is essential.
