We are seeking an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer - Surface Finisher to join our Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Services team at RAAF Base Townsville. In this exciting role, you will support the CH-47F Chinook and work alongside the Australian Defence Force, united in our mission to ensure aircraft readiness for critical tasks.

Your expertise will be essential in keeping the Australian Army Chinook fleet operational, and you'll take pride in knowing your work directly contributes to the safety and effectiveness of the Australian Defence Force. If you have a Certificate III in Aircraft Surface Finishing and at least two years of experience, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Your knowledge of Aviation Quality Assurance procedures and experience as a maintenance certifier or trade supervisor will make you an asset to our team.

In this fulfilling position, you will report to the paint shop manager, coordinate maintenance tasks, sign for completed work, assist with the management of the paint shop, and supervise on-the-job training for junior technicians. What you need to know

  • Fortnightly wage: $3,913.75 (AME3), Allowances as applicable, plus Superannuation, based on experience.
  • Roster: day shift Monday to Friday with an early finish on Fridays
  • Allowances provided as necessary, including Per Diems for travel-related expenses.
  • Parking and canteen facilities available onsite.
  • Relocation assistance available for the right applicant.

Key Responsibilities for Success in This Role

  • Coordination: Collaborate with maintenance planning on aircraft servicing tasks.
  • Task Sign-Off: Sign for completed tasks using the electronic maintenance system.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate maintenance records for paint facility components.
  • Touch-Ups: Perform necessary paint touch-ups on unit vehicles.
  • Task Completion: Execute surface finisher tasks for other Townsville units with approvals.
  • Inventory Management: Order and manage supplies for surface finisher tasks.
  • Safety Standards: Uphold WHS practices in the paint shop and report issues.
  • Training: Supervise and train junior technicians in surface finishing.
  • Documentation: Keep records of non-aircraft tasks in the paint shop.
  • Facility Management: Oversee the Helicopter SURFIN facility operations.

Necessary requirements

  • Certificate III in Aeroskills (Surface Finishing)
  • C class driver's license.
  • Australian Citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain a BASELINE clearance.
