The Opportunity 

Boeing Research & Technology - Australia (BR&T-A) supports the future growth and profitability of Boeing Australia's businesses and the broader Boeing enterprise. This advanced research and development arm creates future aerospace solutions while improving the cycle time, cost, quality and performance of current systems.

BR&T is looking for a Virtual Reality Developer to join the team.  The successful applicant will work with a team of extended reality (XR) specialists to develop innovative solutions for application within new and existing Boeing products and programs.  The Virtual Reality Developer will perform a variety of research and development activities focused on exciting new aerospace projects, contributing to a range of aircraft, training, and human spaceflight programs.  

Some of the day to day activities in this role could be:

  • Designing and developing user interfaces for remote operations of platforms, including MQ28.
  • Creating new frameworks for training and engineering evaluations in extended reality.
  • Creating public facing interactive applications, games, and STEM engagement for space platforms including the CST-100 Starliner and the Lunar Terrain Vehicle.

This role is based at The University of Queensland, St Lucia.

As a Virtual Reality Developer within BR&T-A, you will

  • Design and develop gameplay systems;
  • Research and innovate new applications of interactive and immersive technologies;
  • Research, develop, and integrate cutting edge technologies to produce state of the art extended reality (VR/AR/MR) experiences;
  • Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of real-time 3D applications;
  • Develop interfaces between new and existing systems;
  • Liaise regularly with domestic and international stakeholders to understand/prioritise requirements and business needs;
  • Contribute to defining the extended reality research portfolio strategy.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • An undergraduate degree, equivalent qualification or experience in a field related to computer graphics, game development, or computer science;
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in fields related to computer graphics, game development or virtual/extended reality;
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the development of real-time 3D experiences (games, simulation, serious games etc.) using Unreal Engine;
  • Demonstrated experience in modern software development practices using C++, and the ability to write efficient, clean, readable, reliable, and portable code;
  • Experience developing software in a team environment;
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Ability to keep up to date with advances in technology.
