The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Senior Technical Officer to support the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) Program. BCS is a next generation networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for ADF personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute the assembly, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of electronic and electrical assemblies, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Evaluate and recommend modifications to technical and manufacturing processes, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Assist in the procurement of electronic and electrical components, equipment, and related materials, ensuring timely availability for project activities while adhering to budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure that assembly and test equipment are maintained in optimal working condition and calibrated as required, supporting reliability and precision in all operations.
  • Provide expert technical information and advice to team members and stakeholders, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration.
  • Occasional interstate travel is required to carry out repairs and maintenance of in-service equipment.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Technical qualifications and experience in a relevant field.
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills associated with electronic assemblies and installation.
  • Proficiency in manufacturing/fabrication practices as applicable to the electronics industry.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics and wiring lists. Knowledge of drawing standards.
  • Familiarity with engineering change processes.
  • Mechanical proficiency, including basic knowledge of grinding, drilling, painting, and other related skills, would be highly regarded.
  • Restricted Electrical license (or the ability to obtain one) highly regarded.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
