The Opportunity

The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. MQ-28 is the first military aircraft to be designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia in more than 50 years. A significant manufacturing facility will be constructed in Toowoomba to manufacture this aircraft.

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) will need to develop a workforce capable of delivering this innovative aircraft.

We are seeking a highly skilled Composite Fabrication Instructor to develop and implement engaging training solutions for the MQ-28 Ghost Bat- Manufacturing and Production Team.

In this pivotal role, you will support the initial phase-in of the training system and be directly responsible for upskilling workers within a cutting-edge manufacturing and production facility. This exciting opportunity is primarily based at our Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport facility with travel to other production locations around western Brisbane and nationally when needed. Your work hours will be required to align to production support needs with flexibility to adjust in consultation with managers.

Responsibilities:

Your exceptional training skills enable you to excel in a challenging role, within a unique environment. Responsibilities include:

  • In consultation with the Lead Instructor, develop learning and assessment materials to engage learners and address composite fabrication training requirements.
  • Conduct learning and assessment activities in accordance with identified needs and training standards and standardising practices to ensure training quality and consistency.
  • Monitoring and reporting on training progress, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • In conjunction with leaders and stakeholders, scheduling training activities to meet business requirements, and achieve program objectives and milestones.
  • Engaging stakeholders and program leadership to communicate training progress, issues and recommendations.
  • Evaluating training and implementing continuous improvement to ensure training programs remain current, valid, and make effective, efficient use of available resources and facilities.

Criteria

BDA requires all applicants to possess or be able to demonstrate the following qualifications and experience:

 Essential:

  • Advanced knowledge and skills associated with the fabrication of composite materials and the assembly processes, along with the aptitude to convey detailed technical information to others in a dynamic training environment.
  • Experience in fabrication of composite products including tool preparation, ply cutting, layup, oven and trim.
  • Exposure to safe work processes, an Incident and Injury free mindset.
  • Excellent hand skills and an ability to understand technical information related to production processes.
  • Strong communicator, comfortable in a classroom or in front of groups.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to learn new ideas and concepts.
  • A people person, who loves to help others succeed and a passion for BDA's growth into the future.
  • Ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience providing classroom instruction or on the job training to others in workplace or vocational setting.
  • Hands on experience in an aerospace or similar advanced assembly/fabrication type environment.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated successful track record in delivering training programs within a commercial manufacturing or production setting.
  • Experience in developing and delivering engaging learning programs.
