The Opportunity
We are seeking a talented Principal Technical Officer to join BDA in growing the capabilities of the world leading communications and battle management systems.
Battlespace Communications System (BCS) is a next generation networking product that is the centrepiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for ADF personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

The role is based in Brisbane (QLD) and support for relocation from other locations will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of technical officers to manage the BCS System Integration Facility (SIF) and support teams in the execution of various work packages.
- Lead a team of technical officers to deploy equipment and facilities during the periodic execution of Program wide Mission System Integration and Test Events (MSITEs).
- Ensure the safe execution of activities in the SIF and supporting activities at MSITEs.
- Lead testing of Integrated Battlefield Telecommunication Network (I-BTN) system with End User in mind.
- Contribute to systems development with unique operational and technical insights.
- Work collaboratively with MSITE lead and execution Leads on the BCS team to identify objectives for MSITEs.
- Review the work of technical and engineering staff for correct application of the relevant practice specific to communications infrastructure design, installation, verification and logistics activities.
- Drive a strong continuous improvement mindset.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential:
- Previous experience with I-BTN system is essential.
- Understand Operational Security practices for Australian Defence Force.
- Thorough understanding of Defence Communication Equipment Management (CCI and COMSEC).
- Understanding of the Australian Defence Force, including but not limited to the Defence Organisational Structure, Defence Project Management and Defence Equipment Management.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet Defence security requirements.
Desirable:
- Leadership skills and ability to work effectively within a group environment and with people across all organisational levels.
- Familiarity with systems engineering review and configuration management processes using a PLM tool will be highly regarded.
- Must be willing to travel and work in and around Brisbane. Main work locations will be Brisbane CBD and Wacol, with MSITEs conducted at Defence facilities in the SEQ region.
- Experience managing the safety of personnel, particularly in field-test environments. Experience authoring and working to Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) or similar will be highly regarded.
