The Opportunity

 We are seeking a talented Senior System Safety Engineer to join BDA in growing the capabilities of the world leading communications and battle management systems.

Battlespace Communications System (BCS) is a next generation networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for ADF personnel. It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

The role is based in Brisbane (QLD) - support for relocation from other locations will also be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Systems Engineering activities to plan, design, develop and verify systems specialising in the System Safety domain.
  • Support projects in understanding requirements and design implications pertaining to System Safety and identify potential and realised performance and safety considerations. 
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Lead specific scopes of work in System Safety engineering for projects.
  • Actively promote the benefit of System Safety across the organisation and contribute to the development and growth of these disciplines within BDA.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Tertiary degree qualification in an engineering or related technical discipline;
  • Experience in Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering in a complex project environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of safety-related legislation, standards and safety engineering techniques to product design;
  • Excellent communication skills that enable you to influence outcomes in a team environment;
  • A continuous improvement mindset;
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.

Desirable:

  • Experience within Defence or complex engineering project environments;
  • Preferably RPEQ or CPEng qualified in a relevant discipline or able to gain RPEQ/CPEng certification;
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management;
  • Experience developing and executing against Systems Engineering artifacts including Systems Engineering Management Plan and Verification and Validation Plan;
  • Experience in technical problem solving;
  • Experience in soliciting, analyzing and communicating customer requirements in a cross-disciplinary technical environment.
