The opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Subcontracts Specialist to join our Joint Systems business division. We need a suitably qualified and motivated candidate who can support a wide variety of military network and communications programs located across Australia.

The Joint Systems portfolio provides a range of complex development and engineering support programs for our defence customers. Core capabilities delivered under each of the programs include system development and engineering support consisting of systems engineering, hardware and software engineering as well as operations and maintenance support services.

Responsibilities:

 Any successful candidate will be required to:

  • Take the initiative and make sound judgements.
  • Develop sourcing strategies and approaches to market for military network and communications goods and/or services.
  • Draft, negotiate and manage contracts spanning the following activities: manufacturing, product supply and support, service delivery, software and other services.
  • Engage with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate and maintain relationships with subcontractors and third parties to drive collaboration and ensure on time delivery performance and compliance.
  • Collaborate closely with the Manager - Joint Systems Supplier Management.
  • Participate in and contribute to program progress reporting, planning reviews and meetings.
  • Uphold and ensure best practice across all supply chain and subcontracting activities.

Experience/Qualifications

A suitable candidate will have a combination of the following qualifications and experience:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in law, commerce or business (with law being preferred).
  • Eight (8) years or more work experience in contracts management or procurement with prior defence experience being desirable but not essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Sound commercial acumen and an understanding of Australia's legal and regulatory framework.
  • Good working knowledge of the responsibilities and tasks performed in subcontracting and procurement and their interdependencies with other disciplines (for example, engineering, logistics, finance).
  • A willingness to work in a team environment collaboratively with others in support of a dynamic customer.
