The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Principal Armament Engineer to provide engineering and project management services for weapons and stores on the Super Hornet and Growler aircraft types. This role will place you in the BDA Air Combat and Electronic Attack Support Program Change Team introducing the latest weapons and stores capabilities alongside the aircraft spiral upgrade program. A significant number of advanced capabilities and upgrades are being introduced in the coming years across the platforms, and you will be responsible for delivering them.

This role is based at RAAF Base Amberley.


As a Principal Armament Engineer you will:

  • Undertake engineering and project management related activities to deliver new and upgraded weapons and stores capabilities to impacted platforms.
  • Liaise with Defence and US agencies to coordinate the delivery of services and artefacts to support the local introduction and airworthiness certification of new and modified weapons.
  • Assess the integration of new and modified stores against Aircraft Stores Compatibility engineering requirements and coordinate with other engineering disciplines to the required outcomes.
  • Support and engage in operational testing and trials involving new or modified weapons.
  • Manage platform service release activities.
  • Engage with platform upgrade projects and capability representatives to integrate weapons and stores activities into broader capability upgrades and management activities.
  • Work as a senior member within the team, guiding and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Work towards gaining Engineering Delegations.
  • Support the team with prioritising armament related tasking pertaining to Continuing Airworthiness Management (Part M) and 21J engineering activities including assessing engineering changes and engineering investigations, and compliance verification of stores.
  • Lead, analyse, develop and review system hazards for stores and weapons.

To be considered for the role you wil:

  • Hold Tertiary qualifications in either Mechanical, Aerospace, Avionics, Mechatronics or Chemical Engineering, that satisfies the requirements for membership with Engineers Australia (MIEAust).
  • Previous experience in armament and stores, aircraft operational systems and aviation engineering processes and other related engineering experience.
