The Opportunity

We are looking for Firmware Engineers to support the Battlespace Communication System (BCS) Program. BCS is a next generation networking product that is the centerpiece for multiple projects and campaigns. The BCS combines both developmental and off the shelf hardware and software to provide world leading communications capability for users It can be rapidly deployed from anywhere, and its modular design provides a flexible, scalable solution that can be customized for various mission needs.

We have a range of opportunities available as we plan for future work. This role will see you applying your skills to either our core product for Army, upgrading the capability to integrate with related maritime communications projects, or modernization of the joint air battlespace management system.

Responsibilities  

  • Apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Provide engineering and leadership on the design, development, integration, verification and release of complex systems, in the context of large system-of-system development programs.
  • Participate and take a leading role in the full product lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, integration, verification, deployment and sustainment, as well as supporting the ongoing development of the Support System
  • Development of engineering documentation and configuration management of system hardware infrastructure.
  • Develop, review and approve engineering designs and decisions, as well as the mentoring of less experienced staff.
  • The ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse team, in a conscientious and inclusive way.

Experience/Qualifications

Essential:

  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
  • Experience with the development of firmware for embedded microcontrollers such as STM32.
  • Fluent with programming languages including at least C, C++ and Python,
  • Fluent in reading and understanding electrical and electronic Schematics, and component datasheets,
  • Experienced in the use of programming tools such as make, cmake, gdbp and openocd, and cross compiling,
  • Experienced in the use of electronics lab test and measurement equipment such as multi-meters and digital oscilloscopes,
  • Experienced in the use of Configuration Management tools such as Bitbucket, SVN, Team-Centre, 3DXperience.
  • Experience in Atlassian suite of products such as Jira & Confluence
  • Demonstrated skills in writing technical reports and developing documentation and procedures related to firmware and firmware deployment

 Desirable:

  • Experence within Defence or complex engineering project environments is desirable.
  • Experience in the development of embedded firmware with deterministic or real time performance
  • Bachelor's Degree in Software, Electrical or Electronic Engineering,
  • Experience in the programming of FPGAs both in VHDL, Verilog and higher layers of abstraction
  • Familiar with agile software development methodologies.
