The opportunity

Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) is currently recruiting for an Aircraft Structural Integrity (ASI) Engineer to provide in-service support of the Royal Australian Air Force platforms that BDA sustains, initially focusing on the fleet of F/A-18F & EA-18G Aircraft As an ASI Engineer, you will join the Specialty Engineering Capability, and initially be embedded with the Air Combat Electronic Attack Systems Program Office (ACEASPO) F/A-18F & EA-18G Sustainment Program at RAAF Base Amberley. You will:

Overview

  • Responsible for execution of the Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) through the different phases of the aircraft life cycle.
  • Ensure continued airworthiness through structural life assessment (SLA) and structural health monitoring (SHM) of the airframe and provides recommendations for possible maintenance actions.
  • Monitor and manage the Aircraft structural fatigue life to ensure the aircrafts are safe and reliable throughout their life.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of the ASIP requirements in accordance with the respective Aircraft Structural Integrity Management Plan (ASIMP).
  • Ensure Boeing meet ASIMP requirements as contracted. Develop performance reporting frameworks as required.  
  • Assist in the transition of ASI responsibilities from Defence Aviation Safety Authority (DASA) Directorate of Aviation Engineering (DAVENG) and other various external providers.
  • Assist in reviewing and analysing Structural Life Assessment reports and provide recommendations for Australian Defence Force Configuration Role and Environment (CRE).
  • Conduct structural investigations to address airworthiness and supportability issues under the Sustainment program.

Essential criteria:

  • Minimum of Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical or compatible discipline from nationally accredited program or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7 years of aircraft related engineering experience, (experience in aircraft structural design, analysis or engineering support to in-service aircraft operations is desirable).
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, standards and best practices in either a Defence or Civil environment (DASR or equivalent).
  • Professional work involving independence in approach and demanding a considerable degree of judgement.
  • Must be an Australian Citizen; possess or able to pass vetting for Australian Security Clearance of NV-1.
  • Ability to obtain membership grade from Engineers Australia (MIEAust), working towards Chartered Status (CPEng).
